The Chilocco School Board and Oklahoma House delegation urged for the money to remain in the bill, but Senator Bellmon did not push for its inclusion as he wants a statewide study of educational and health facilities for Indians first. Bellmon has been opposed to Indian resident schools, but it is unclear if this is true. There are concerns about declining enrollment and the need for Chilocco to meet the specific needs of Indian students. Hawkins defended the school administration in response to recent disturbances.
