Senator Thomas forwarded the letter to John Collier, Commissioner of Indian Affairs, who responded stating that a delegate had already been selected for the Absentee Shawnee Indian Tribe to represent them at the hearings. The Indian Office provided documentation showing that the selection process had been followed and that no further appeals would be considered.
