<dcterms:description>The Cherokee Nation filed an application for attorneys' fees, seeking an award of $1,436,447.61, based on 10% of the final judgment amount. The attorneys had two contracts with the Cherokee Nation, one from 1948 and another from 1958, both approved by the Commissioner of Indian Affairs. The contracts stipulated that the attorneys' compensation would be contingent on a recovery for the Cherokee Nation and not to exceed 10% of the amount recovered. The Commission allowed a partial fee of $200,000 in a previous order.</dcterms:description>

<dcterms:description>The Cherokee Nation successfully petitioned the Indian Claims Commission for a settlement of $14,364,476.15 for land ceded in 1893. The attorneys representing the Cherokee tribe requested a fee of ten percent of the award, but the Commission determined that a fee of $1,000,000 or seven percent of the recovery was fair and adequate. The case involved determining the fair market value of the ceded land and the attorneys provided detailed information on the services they rendered in prosecuting the claim. One attorney, Earl Boyd Pierce, was primarily responsible for keeping the tribe informed and involved in the litigation process. Pierce spent a significant amount of time corresponding with and meeting with tribal members to update them on the progress of the claim.</dcterms:description>

<dcterms:description>Senator Dewey F. Bartlett requested a bulldozer for the Cherokee Tribe from the Ozarks Regional Commission in August 1975. The Commission responded that bulldozers were scarce but offered to assist in searching for one. They suggested that the Tribe seek assistance from the BIA Agency as well. Senator Bartlett forwarded the response to Chief Keeler and expressed hope for a satisfactory outcome. The Cherokee Tribe had submitted a list of needed equipment to the Ozarks Regional Commission in May 1975, including the bulldozer, to improve economic conditions for the Indian population in tribal land areas.</dcterms:description>
