<dcterms:description>Mr. Jim Snow, Jr. inquired about obtaining an Indian allotment on Forest Service lands in Oklahoma. The Forest Service explained that all lands suitable for agricultural settlement have been settled or allotted, and there are no lands available for homesteading or allotment purposes. The Forest Homestead Act of 1906 did not provide homesteading rights for Indians, and the lands in question were reacquired by the United States for specific purposes and are not open for settlement. The Forest Allotment Act of 1910 allowed eligible Indians to obtain allotments on National Forest lands, but all lands classified for agricultural settlement have been settled or allotted. Congress repealed the 1906 act in 1962 because its purpose had been fulfilled. The Forest Service expressed understanding for the frustrations of those who obtain Certificates of Eligibility but find no lands available for agricultural settlement.</dcterms:description>

<dcterms:description>The letter is in response to Senator Harris' inquiry about a loan application submitted by Myers for refinancing and farm operating expenses. The application was carefully reviewed, but it was determined that repayment would take too long and the necessary security was not available. Myers had also not complied with a grazing lease contract, further complicating the situation. The loan application was not approved, and Myers was advised to seek financing from his current creditors.</dcterms:description>

<dcterms:description>The letter is a response to Senator Fred R. Harris regarding a loan application made by Walker Myers. The Bureau of Indian Affairs reviewed Myers' application for a loan for refinancing and farming operations, but determined that they could not approve it due to concerns about repayment within a reasonable timeframe. Myers' lack of real estate and previous issues with compliance also factored into the decision. The Bureau advised Myers to work with his current creditors to find alternative financing options.</dcterms:description>

<dcterms:description>In this radio report, Congressman Bob Dole discusses a bill he has recently introduced, an amendment to the Food for Peace Program that would create what he calls the Bread and Butter Corps. This would be a volunteer group, trained by land-grant colleges and sent to other countries to support farmers and provide agricultural training abroad. Dole explains that he intends for the Bread and Butter Corps to be a form of food support that does more than simply exporting American crops.</dcterms:description>
