- Description:
- The Civil Rights Act of 1964 after it was passed in the House and in the Senate. It was designed to protect the right to vote (amending the voting rights within the Civil Rights Act of 1957 and the Civil Rights Act of 1960), confer jurisdiction upon district courts to provide relief against discrimination, desegregation public facilities, desegregation of public education, authorize the Attorney General to institute suits to protect constitutional rights in public institutions, and extend the Commission on Civil Rights, to prevent discrimination in federally assisted programs, establish the Commission on Equal Employment Opportunity procedure after removal in Civil Rights cases, and the establishment of Community Relations Service.
