- Description:
- Representative George B. Schwabe received numerous letters and petitions from citizens protesting against the placement of 18-year-old boys in active combat duty overseas with minimal training. Schwabe sympathized with the parents and assured them he was protesting against the policy. He also met with President Truman to discuss the issue, who expressed interest in protecting the interests and lives of the young soldiers. The Senate passed a bill to delay combat service for these boys until they had at least six months of training. Schwabe received support and petitions from constituents, urging him to continue advocating for the issue.
