- Description:
- George B. Schwabe received a telegram from Mr. H.C. Hawkins urging him to vote for the resurrection of O.P.A. rent and price controls. Schwabe disagrees with Hawkins, stating that the majority of people in northeastern Oklahoma, including farmers and residents of smaller towns, are against O.P.A. and price controls. He believes these policies are un-American and have socialistic and communistic backgrounds. Schwabe argues that prices are not skyrocketing and that instances of chiseling and rent complaints are mostly in cities with rent control. He believes that such ideas will not preserve American civilization and economy. Schwabe thanks Hawkins for his views but remains firm in his opposition to O.P.A. and planned economy for peace time programs.
