- Description:
- George B. Schwabe, a member of the United States House of Representatives from Oklahoma, conducted an investigation into the benefits that cities in Oklahoma could receive under Title V of the War Mobilization and Reconversion Act of 1944 for post-war planning. He received confirmation from the General Counsel of the Federal Works Agency that the Act allows for advances to be made by the Federal Government to cities for planning projects, with the understanding that repayment would only be required if the projects are actually undertaken. Schwabe addressed concerns that some city authorities had about incurring debts for planning expenses, emphasizing that the Act provides authority for such advances. He offered his cooperation to assist cities in executing their post-war plans efficiently.
