- Description:
- LeRoy Hampton's letter alleging that his homestead land awarded as a citizen of the Choctaw Nation has been seized and held illegally was addressed by the Department of the Interior. They informed him that the restrictions on his land were removed in 1920, terminating their jurisdiction over his land. The Bureau of Indian Affairs also provided information on the removal of restrictions for individuals with a certain degree of Indian blood, including Hampton. They clarified that his land was no longer under their jurisdiction and provided historical context on the removal of restrictions. The Department also returned the original copy of Hampton's Homestead Patent for safekeeping.
