- Description:
- The Executive Committee of the Cherokee Nation has authorized and directed the Principal Chief to negotiate with the Department of the Interior to re-acquire title and possession of certain lands in Oklahoma. The lands were originally owned by the Cherokee Nation but were later conveyed to the United States for the education of Indian children. The Cherokee Nation believes that the lands are surplus and in excess of the needs for the Indian school, and they are seeking to re-acquire them for the benefit of their members. They plan to submit the results of the negotiations to Congress for approval. The resolution has been forwarded to Senator A. S. Mike Monroney and other members of Congress for their information and action.
