- Description:
- The Community Self-Determination Act promotes economic development in lower income communities through local self-help, ownership, and decision-making. It establishes Community Development Corporations (CDCs) owned by residents, which manage businesses and social service programs. The Act also creates Community Development Banks (CDBs) for financing, tax incentives for outside companies to invest in communities, and grants for management training. The Act is supported by bipartisan Congress members and has been implemented in various communities across the country.
