- LaDonna Harris has been appointed as the Chairman of the National Women's Advisory Council on Poverty. The council, consisting of prominent American women, aims to strengthen efforts to help people move out of poverty. The purpose of the council is to coordinate, evaluate, enlist support, and plan for the Annual Conference on Women in the War Against Poverty. LaDonna Harris, an active member of the Comanche Indian tribe, has been involved in poverty alleviation efforts and has been appointed by Sargent Shriver, the director of the U.S. Office of Economic Opportunity.
