- AIO is a national Indian organization that strives to fulfill an advocacy role in favor of Indian people. Programs like the Native American Legal Defense and Education Fund and the American Indian Investment Opportunities, Inc. were mere dreams a short year ago, but are now programs that are funded and in the process of being launched into full-blown reality. On a short-range basis, AIO hopes to develop into a broad-based organization with broad financial support in order to continue the work of enabler for Indian groups. On a long-range basis, AIO seeks to be a leader in the effort to assist in creating a climate for the development of a national Indian development bank. This is a very important priority. AIO pledges to be a leader in the formation of a national American for Indian Housing Alliance which will seek to concern itself with the totally ignored Indian in the urban areas.
