- Description:
- The Tribal Indian Land Rights Association of Oregon has officers and board members who are working to protect the rights of Indian people in Oregon. They are concerned about the allotment issue and feel that the federal representatives are not adequately representing the Indian people. They are organizing to fight for Indian land rights and have filed suits in various states, including Oregon. Representative Robert Smith has disclosed that Indian claims to federal lands in Oregon could wipe out state lands and forests, and a hearing will be held to address these issues. Amos A. Hopkins-Dukes, the National Executive Director, is leading the effort to acquire land for Indians under an 1887 allotment act.
