- Description:
- The document discusses the provision of care and supervision for Indian children in Canton whose parents are in jail. Meetings have been held between Bureau staff and town officials to address this issue, and suggestions have been made to utilize resources at the County, State, and Federal levels. The Blaine County Welfare Department has agreed to provide emergency care for children in need, and efforts are being made to develop an emergency shelter program. The Concho Agency is working with the Blaine County Development Foundation to address this issue, and social workers are investigating cases of child neglect in Canton. The Bureau staff are willing to collaborate with local and State agencies to address the problem of neglected Indian children in Oklahoma communities. It is emphasized that these issues should be seen as community problems rather than solely "Indian" problems.
