- Description:
- The President of the National Congress of American Indians, Wendell Chino, wrote a letter to Senator Fred R. Harris expressing appreciation for his speech on the "New Destiny for American Indians" and agreeing with the need for a new approach to solving Indian problems. Chino also emphasized the importance of Indian leaders being actively involved in finding solutions and offered to discuss these issues further during a visit to Washington. He urged for the formation of a top policy making advisory group comprised of tribal leaders representative of Indian groups throughout the United States to help further the development of the American Indian people.
