- Description:
- Oyate, Inc., a non-profit Indian-controlled state corporation, operated a successful bilingual education program at Loneman Day School and Red Cloud Indian School in South Dakota. Despite the program's success, there has been a delay in renewing the contract for the upcoming school year. The delay is due to tribal politics and the inadequacies of the Bureau of Indian Affairs' decision-making apparatus. The situation is further complicated by the actions of the local BIA Area Director. The Coalition of Indian Controlled School Boards is advocating for the renewal of Oyate's contract and requesting immediate action to avoid further delays.
