- Description:
- Senator Fred Harris received a letter from Billie Masters inquiring about loans for higher education programs for Indians. Senator Harris contacted the Bureau of Indian Affairs for information and received a reply stating that there are programs available for financial aid and supportive services for eligible Indian students attending college. Due to Masters' employment as a teacher, it is suggested that his salary should allow for repayment of at least the minimum required amount. The Bureau also mentioned that no provisions are made for the cancellation of guaranteed loans and resources are quickly depleting due to the high number of students being assisted. Senator Harris assured Masters that he will provide further information once he receives a report from the Bureau.
