- Helen Gahagan Douglas writes to Mr. Giles to clarify that her husband, Melvyn Douglas, did not contribute to the defense of the Hollywood Ten who were cited for contempt of Congress. She explains that her husband was part of the Committee for the First Amendment, which protested against the procedures of the Committee on Un-American Activities. She provides information about the activities of the Committee and offers to provide more information if needed. Helen expresses her gratitude for the support of Mr. Giles and the committee and looks forward to meeting them at a future meeting in Fresno.
