- Description:
- This bill proposes the creation of a Navajo-Hopi Board of Arbitration to mediate and settle conflicting interests between the Navajo and Hopi Indian Tribes regarding lands within the joint use area of the Hopi Reservation and the Navajo Reservation. The Board will be composed of three members and will receive compensation for their services. If the parties fail to reach an agreement within a specified timeframe, further provisions will become operative. The bill also authorizes the Board to make rules and regulations, request information from federal agencies, and terminate its existence after filing a final report with the Secretary of the Interior. Additionally, there is a provision for the appropriation of funds for the expenses of the Board.
