- Description:
- An agreement was reached to end the seizure of Wounded Knee, with occupants agreeing to submit to arrest, disarm, and allow for searches for weapons. The government agreed to a residual force on the Pine Ridge Reservation to prevent further confrontations, as well as audits of tribal funds and federal program funding. The Department of Justice agreed to protect the rights of Oglala Sioux individuals, and both parties agreed on the substantive issues arising from the confrontation. The agreement was signed on April 5, 1973.
