- Description:
- Congressman James Abdnor from South Dakota calls for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the dissident elements occupying Wounded Knee. He believes that force is necessary to restore order and respect for law in the community, as the situation has escalated due to the actions of the American Indian Movement (AIM) members. Abdnor describes the violence and destruction of property that has occurred in the area, and emphasizes the need for federal authorities to take action to end the anarchy at Wounded Knee. He believes that the majority of the occupiers are outsiders and not representative of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, and criticizes the media for portraying a romanticized version of the situation. Abdnor concludes by urging federal officers to enter Wounded Knee and arrest those in violation of the law.
