- Description:
- H.J.RES. 1117 was adopted by the Indian Affairs Subcommittee to create the American Indian Policy Review Commission. The Commission will study the legal and historical relationship between the Federal government and Native Americans, recommend changes to policies and programs, and address various areas of concern such as trust responsibility, tribal government, and Indian education. The Commission will be composed of congressional members and Indian representatives, and will have the authority to issue subpoenas, appoint task forces, and submit final reports to Congress. The Commission will receive $2,500,000 in funding for its work.
