- Description:
- H.R. 5332 authorizes the Southern Ute Indian Tribe to sell tribal lands that are not needed for Indian use, with approval from the Secretary of the Interior. Proceeds from the sales must be used to purchase land within the Reservation boundaries. The bill also allows the Tribe to mortgage tribal land with approval from the Secretary of the Interior to raise money for land purchases. An amendment is included to address situations where the Tribe reacquires land through foreclosure of a mortgage or deed of trust.
