- Description:
- The Department of the Interior's Bureau of Indian Affairs announced a streamlined system for the use or distribution of judgments made to American Indian tribes and groups. The new regulations include a 180-day time schedule for identifying beneficiaries of judgments, holding meetings to develop proposals for the use of funds, and submitting final distribution plans to Congress and tribal governing bodies. The distribution plan becomes effective unless disapproved by Congress, in which case further consultation with the affected tribe or group is required. The regulations were published following a public hearing in Denver and consideration of oral and written comments. Title 25.
