- Mrs. Juanita L. Learned wrote a letter to Senator Henry Bellmon expressing her interest in the Commissioner of Indian Affairs position. She received a response from Happy Camp, a Member of Congress, thanking her for sharing her letter. Mrs. Learned also corresponded with W.W. Keeler, the Principal Chief of the Cherokees, who relayed information to Marvin Franklin about her interest in the position. Marvin Franklin indicated he was not interested in the job, despite newspaper reports suggesting otherwise.
