- Description:
- Dewey F. Bartlett, a United States Senator from Oklahoma, conducted field hearings on Indian housing in his state and identified problem areas that could possibly be resolved by further hearings with government agencies. He requested approval to conduct a one-day hearing on Indian housing in Oklahoma. Bartlett also apologized for a delay in responding to a request for information on Indian housing projects from the Department of Health, Education and Welfare, and referred the correspondence to the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Department of Housing and Urban Development responded, stating that an Office of Indian Policy and Programs had been established to coordinate issues related to Indian housing, and offered assistance in answering any questions or discussing relevant issues.
