- Description:
- A Congressional hearing in Muskogee addressed concerns about the administration of public housing programs for Indians by federal bureaucrats from HUD and other agencies. Issues included delays in program approval, back payments on public housing, and delinquencies in tenant payments. Tribal leaders and federal officials acknowledged weaknesses in the system and the need for more resources and expertise. Senator Bartlett recommended better communication and collaboration between tribal and federal authorities to improve Indian housing programs.
