- Description:
- The Johnson-O'Malley Act authorizes the Secretary of the Interior to enter into contracts with states or territories to provide education, medical attention, relief of distress, and social welfare for Native Americans. The Act allows for the use of existing facilities and equipment for these purposes. The Secretary of the Interior is also authorized to establish rules and regulations to carry out the provisions of the Act. Annual reports on contracts and expenditures must be made to Congress. The Act does not apply to the state of Oklahoma.
