- Description:
- The Bureau of Indian Affairs is providing guidelines for the development and implementation of new school programs through contracts with tribal and other Indian groups. The goal is to reestablish community control of the educational process among Indian tribes and groups. The guidelines reflect statutory authority and aim to promote education self-determination compatible with American education standards. The primary responsibility for providing education to Indian people lies with Indian and Alaska Native School Communities. The guidelines are applicable to existing Bureau schools and can be modified for schools in Alaska.
