- Description:
- Mrs. Ernest W. Tate requested an extension of time for registration for members of the Chickasaw Tribe to vote in the Tribal Election. Governor Overton James responded by extending the registration period until May 15, 1971. The Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Carl Albert, acknowledged Mrs. Tate's request and assured her that he would follow up on the matter. Governor James personally contacted Mrs. Tate and another individual in Ardmore to inform them of the registration extension. The correspondence reflects the importance of ensuring all eligible Chickasaws are properly notified and given the opportunity to vote in the election.
