- Description:
- The Bureau of Indian Affairs was asked to look into the funds provided for Indian education in the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. It was found that students at Jones Academy are counted by the State of Oklahoma for funding, not by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The Bureau's funds only go to its own boarding schools, except in cases where children are from out-of-state. The State of Oklahoma receives money for Jones Academy students, which theoretically should go to Hartshorne schools. The Bureau does not count Jones Academy students for Title I funds.
