- Description:
- The letter informs recipients that the last per capita payment to the Cherokees was made in 1916 for $3.30, and those who did not claim it within three years are barred from receiving it. Currently, the Cherokee Tribe has only a few hundred dollars in their fund and no payments are expected soon. However, they have claims against the government that may result in future payments to tribe members. Recipients are advised not to send proof of entitlement at this time as the office is not prepared to keep such records, but will provide ample notice when the time comes to file claims.
