- Description:
- Mrs. Lorena Scott Griffin received a response from Carl Albert, a congressman from Oklahoma, regarding her inquiry about payment to the Choctaw and Chickasaw Indians for coal lands they sold to the government. The government has appropriated $8,500,000 for these lands, and payments of around $300 per enrolled member will be made in a lump sum. Living enrolled members will be paid first, and heirs of deceased members will receive their shares later. Mrs. Griffin is advised to update her mailing address with the Agency in Muskogee, Oklahoma, to avoid any delays in receiving payment. Proof of heirship notices will be sent out to the heirs of deceased members. Carl Albert offers further assistance if needed.
