- Description:
- Mrs. Lane wrote a letter to Carl Albert, a congressman, inquiring about the payments to be made to the members of the Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations for the sale of their coal lands to the government. Carl Albert responds, informing her that there are around 13,000 living enrolled members out of a total of 27,103, and that payments will be made to living members first, with regulations being written up for this purpose. He also explains that heirs of deceased members can file for their share, with proof of heirship notices to be mailed out later in the fall. Mrs. Lane expresses concerns about the amount each Indian will receive and asks for more information on the number of enrolled Indians.
