- Description:
- Members of the Choctaw Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma are petitioning Congressman Carl Albert to not extend expired leases for coal and asphalt mining on tribal lands. They believe it is unwise to enter into long-term obligations that may be detrimental in the future. They are against the development of new mines and the sale of any more acreage, as they feel it will deplete the value of their property. They request the Congressman's support and offer to provide any necessary information to help their cause.
