- Description:
- This program aims to improve educational opportunities for Indian children by providing training for parent committee members. The Chickasaw Indian Tribe has a history of resilience and sovereignty, but with the advent of statehood in 1907, they became part of Oklahoma. President Nixon's message in 1970 led to increased Indian involvement in educational programs, and funding from Public Law 92-318 has allowed for meeting the unique educational needs of Indian students. The program requires funded Local Education Agencies to hold public hearings to involve the Indian community in discussing educational adequacy.
