- Description:
- Federal funds have been approved for the Chickasaw Housing Authority to build more prefabricated homes for Indians on their land. The homes are either three or four bedrooms and recipients must contribute "sweat labor" towards construction. The homes are bought on a lease-purchase agreement and the federal government covers the difference between the cost to build and what the Indian pays. Approval has also been given to construct an additional 1,000 units in Oklahoma, with 300 of them being built in the Ada-Byng area. The tribe has also received a grant to train personnel for the Chickasaw Motor Inn in Sulphur.
