Eichmann, wrote to Honorable Helen Gahagan Douglas regarding his son, who had been in the army for three years and was experiencing delays in receiving mail and packages while serving overseas. Helen Gahagan Douglas forwarded the letter to the War Department for investigation and assured Mr. Eichmann of her concern and assistance. The War Department liaison officer, Col. Wm. F. Pearson, responded to Mrs. Douglas, stating that the soldier was receiving mail regularly and that delays were due to transportation problems. He also provided information on the War Department's policy regarding the discharge of enlisted men.
