After two months of disagreement, the tribes have reached a compromise on procedural issues, including a minor change in the bill's wording. The bill, introduced by Representative Steed, has been delayed due to opposition from the Cherokees. The tribes claim ownership of the northern half of the Arkansas River bed, and the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the tribes. The state of Oklahoma has appealed this ruling.
