The Cherokee Nation is interested in repurchasing a portion of the land that has been deemed excess and surplus to the needs of the educational institution at Chalaco. They are offering to reimburse the United States for the excess lands and are seeking approval from the Principal Chief and the Executive Committee of the Cherokee Nation, as well as the Department of the Bureau of Indian Affairs. She described Joe as hard-working, ambitious, well-liked in his community, and well-behaved. In response, the recipient of the letter, on October 26, 1963, informed Mrs. Allen that the Federal Government does not have a program for assisting high school students financially or through scholarships, but suggested a program for college students to obtain loans at low interest rates.
