The students, ranging in age from 12 to 18, were from boarding schools operated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. They were guests of Congressman Albert for lunch, attended a session of Congress, and toured the Capitol. The students were participating in a Youth Development Project sponsored by Southeastern State College, Durant. Staff members from SSC accompanied the group on the trip.
