Belcher forwarded the letter to the Bureau of Indian Affairs, who responded that while there are deficiencies at the school, their priority is providing classroom space for the 5,000 Indian children currently out of school. They stated that some remodeling had been done to make the dormitories safe and sanitary. French urged the government to prioritize funding for Native American education before foreign aid.
