![["The Cherokee Nation successfully petitioned the Indian Claims Commission for a settlement of $14,364,476.15 for land ceded in 1893. The attorneys representing the Cherokee tribe requested a fee of ten percent of the award, but the Commission determined that a fee of $1,000,000 or seven percent of the recovery was fair and adequate. The case involved determining the fair market value of the ceded land and the attorneys provided detailed information on the services they rendered in prosecuting the claim. One attorney, Earl Boyd Pierce, was primarily responsible for keeping the tribe informed and involved in the litigation process.
