![["Congressman Nixon, running for United States Senator, believes that progress should not be hindered by disagreements over whether power should be provided by public or private entities, or whether water delivery should be limited to those owning 160 acres or less. He argues that the 160-acre limitation issue should not be a concern as it would be difficult to enforce in developed areas. Nixon believes that private companies should be allowed to provide power where they can do so efficiently and at a lower cost than the government, but the government should step in where private companies cannot provide adequate service. He opposes the White-Douglas Bill, which would allow for federal development of power facilities even if it would be more costly to consumers and taxpayers than private enterprise.
