The Bureau of Indian Affairs and Muskogee Area Office have both stated that they cannot offer him recognition as a Creek Indian due to lack of sufficient proof of his Creek Indian blood. Senator Bartlett made an inquiry on his behalf but was unable to provide any hope of recognition. Brown's mother was half Seminole and half Creek, but only enrolled as a Seminole, making it difficult to establish his Creek Indian heritage.
