Coleman's application for a Special Scholarship Program in Law for American Indians at the University of New Mexico. The Bureau stated that Miss Coleman, who is one-eighth degree Choctaw, did not meet the blood quantum requirement for eligibility. They suggested alternative financial aid opportunities and programs she could apply for. Additionally, a letter from the University of New Mexico School of Law to Miss Coleman informed her that she was not accepted for the summer session of the program, but may receive financial assistance if accepted at another law school.
