The Ute Indians of Utah and Colorado also received a settlement of $4.4 million from the United States Court of Claims for a long-pending case. The Indian Claims Commission has granted a total of 88 awards totaling over $213 million as of January 1, 1967. The majority of claims are for the fair value of Indian lands ceded to or taken by the US government.
