The Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Five Civilized Tribes Agency were involved in the matter, and attempts were made to reach a settlement. Mrs. Nelson brought a lawsuit against the company, but it was resolved in favor of the company. The Bureau of Indian Affairs considered the amount deposited by the company for damages and right-of-way to be an equitable settlement, and no further action could be taken on behalf of Mrs. Nelson.
