The Indian Health Service plans to discontinue part or all of the Public Health Nursing contracts with the State of Oklahoma in FY 1977, as part of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act. The State has done a commendable job in providing services, but the Indian Health Service believes it would not be a duplication of services if tribes and/or the Indian Health Service had their own Public Health Nursing program. The Indian Health Service will continue to refer eligible Indian patients to appropriate programs, even if a contract with the State is not renewed. The Indian Health Service is exempt from the new Health Planning Law but subscribes to the philosophy of non-duplication of services. Governor David L.
